In video games, there are occasionally companions who help you out a lot, or not so much, but either way they're there with you through your triumphs and tribulations in the game.

A handful of in-game companions, who I've had the pleasure of playing with, came to mind. These companions played big parts in my success or defeat.

Miles "Tails" Powers. For those of you who don't know, Tails is the fox who accompanies Sonic on his adventures. He has always been a good friend to Sonic and first started being helpful in Sonic 2 (I think that was the one, correct me if I'm wrong). Someone else could pick up the second player controller and move Tails around to help Sonic in very limited ways. Further on in the series, Tails was shown to be very tech savvy and could build and control robots and other machines. But regardless of how helpful he was, he was always on Sonic's side.

Cortana and 343 Guilty Spark are both companions of the great Masterchief from the Halo games. Guilty Spark helps Masterchief throughout certain areas when it sees fit. Other times, it's just down right annoying. Lucky him! On the other hand, Cortana is always there to help Masterchief, no matter what he chooses or what obstacles he has to overcome, even though she knows the numbers are against him.

"Portal" spoiler alert!

GLaDOS starts out being a semi-helpful A.I. in Portal that tells you what to do at the beginning of the game. But throughout the game, you slowly realize that GLaDOS is mostly there just to conduct its experiments, and sing you a lovely song at the very end of the game. "The cake is a lie!"

See ya next week when I talk about something else.
