Agnes Behrendt, 97, of Menominee, Mich., passed away on Saturday, June 14, 2014, at the Menominee Care Center. The former Agnes Hruska was born on January 22, 1917, in Menominee, Mich. to the late Charles and Anna (Eger) Hruska.
Agnes attended Menominee High School and graduated with the class of 1935 from which she remained active on the reunion committee for many years. On June 30, 1938, Agnes married Tony Velich. Tony preceded her in death on January 15, 1961. In February of 1980, Agnes married Clyde Behrendt. Clyde preceded her in death on June 15, 1991. Agnes worked for Liberty Loan Corp in Marinette and left there in 1943. She would go on to work for the American Can Credit Union and transferred to American Can Company and then retired from Menominee Paper Company in 1979. Agnes was also the manager of the Menominee City and County Credit Union until 1989. She enjoyed sewing and was an excellent seamstress. Agnes further enjoyed traveling and her pet dogs. She was a member of Peace United Church of Christ, Marinette.
Survivors include her daughter, Lynda Herman of Colorado Springs, Colo.; nephew, Daniel Hruska of Menominee, Mich.; and two nieces: Judith and Karen Jean of Chicago, Ill.; and dear friends: Jacki Renne and Judy Anderson. Agnes was preceded in death by her sister, Rose Damer; two brothers: Charles and Frank; and nephew, Thomas Hruska.
Graveside service will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2014 in Riverside Cemetery at 10 a.m. Anderson Kell Funeral Home, Menominee, Mich. is assisting the family with arrangements.
