Barbara M. Johnson, 89, formerly of Menominee, passed away on Friday, June 13, 2014, at the Luther Home. She was born on June 19, 1924, to the late Gust and Lucy (Fischer) Johnson in Menominee.
  She graduated from Menominee High School in 1942. Barbara had worked for the Menominee Herald Leader, the Lloyd Factory, WAGN and WMAM as a news reporter, a stringer for the UPI wire services, and had been a bookkeeper for Crivitz Ski Manufacturing, Bond Pickle Co. and 19 years with the Menominee Public Schools retiring in 1986. She was a member of Resurrection Church and Woman’s Club, the Legion of Mary, the Menominee Woman’s Club, and the Retired School Personnel Assistants. She also volunteered her time and talents at the Menominee County Historical Society, West Shore Fishing Museum, and Resurrection Parish. She wrote many poems as her hobby and enjoyed her river cottage which was to all a “little bit of Heaven.” Her favorite quote was “It is not what you give, it is what you share.”
  Barbara is survived by her sister, Virginia DeDamos of Marinette; dear friend, Gladys Constine; and was “Aunt Barb” to four generations of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, four sisters, and Carroll Hoffher.
 Visitation will take place at Cadieu-Thielen Funeral Home, 549 10th Ave. Menominee, on Tuesday, June 17th from 4 to 6 p.m. The Vigil prayer service will begin at 6 p.m. with Fr. Ryan Ford presiding. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, for the repose of the soul of Barbara Johnson, at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 18th at Resurrection Parish with Fr. Ryan Ford presiding.
  Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
  We ask that in lieu of flowers, a gift be made to the Menominee County Heritage Museum.
