Carmine F. Vara Sr., 82, of Gwinn, Mich., passed away Monday, July 1, 2013 at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers, Mich. Carmine was born on March 5, 1931, in Boston, Mass. to the late Anthony and Miriam (Foster) Vara.
On March 15, 1974, Carmine married the former Marsha Galbraith in Marquette, Mich. Carmine was career military serving his Country as a boom operator in the United States Air Force for 26 years. Following his retirement from the Air Force, Carmine went to work for Wittock Supply in Marquette, Mich. Carmine enjoyed photography, feeding wildlife, and being with his cats and dogs. He was very mechanical and enjoyed working on cars. In his younger years he enjoyed bowling, pool, snowmobiling and water skiing. Carmine was a member of the Gwinn VFW where he served as past commander.
Survivors include his wife, Marsha of Gwinn, Mich.; son, Carmine Jr. (Terry) of New Berlin, Wis. and daughter, Pauline Poupore of Carney, Mich.; six grandchildren: Paul and Katelyn Vara, Leslie-Ann Linder, Amanda-Jo (Jaime) Kleikamp, Logan Poupore, and Trevor Poupore; and great-grandchild, Jersey Kleikamp. Carmine was preceded in death by his sister, Carmela LaRosee.
Family and friends may call at Anderson Diehm Funeral Home, Stephenson, on Sunday, July 7, 2013 from 1 p.m. until time of Military Rites at 2 p.m. followed by Funeral Service. Deacon Tom Rivard officiating.
Burial will follow in Bethesda Cemetery with military honors. Following the burial all friends and family are invited to a lunch at the home of Joe & Carol Linder W 4711 #34 Road Nadeau, Mich.
