After a courageous two year battle with cancer and congestive heart failure, Donald L. Tessmer Sr., 69, of Menominee, passed away on the evening of January 28, 2014, at Bay Area Medical Center with the love of his life by his side. He was born on September 26, 1944, in Stambaugh Mich. to the late Alfred and Margaret Tessmer.
Donald was made a very happy man when Linda J. Bell became his wife on June 24, 1967, in Illinois. They moved to the U.P. in 1978 and settled in the Stephenson area where they raised their six children. They moved to Menominee in 2003. Donald had many jobs in his life but made a career out of truck driving, which he did for over 25 years. He loved the road, the places he saw and the people he met along the way. He will be lovingly remembered as a man who never missed an opportunity to tell a story, a joke, play a prank, or watch a rerun of NCIS. As a younger man Donald enjoyed playing guitar, hunting, fishing and going camping with his family. Over the years he never lost his love of sitting around a campfire telling a good ghost story or singing a silly song.
Donald is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Linda; children: Scott (fiancée Rebecca) Bell, Donald Jr. (Pamela), Heather (boyfriend Cory) Adams, Jeffery (Jennifer), Kimberly (Gary) Rachels, and Eric (Melissa), all of Menominee; his sisters: Elaine, Charlotte, Kibby, Punky, and Irene; his brothers: Paul, Tiny, and Fred; his 20 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, special niece and nephew, Cheryl and Paul Smith and his favorite Uncle James Tessmer.
The family would like to thank the nurses of Marquette General Hospice, the ICU nurses of BAMC and Dr. Halaweh and his wonderful staff.
