Doris M. Gustafson

Doris M. Gustafson, 91, of Escanaba, passed away August 4, 2014, in Peshtigo, Wis. She was born August 5, 1922, in Washburn, Wis. and was the daughter of Enok and Edith (Wickstrom) Ekholm.
Doris graduated from high school and then from Stout College (now Stout State University) in Menomonie, Wis. with a teaching degree. Doris was a Home Economics Teacher for 32 years, teaching at the Gladstone Public Schools for four years and then at the Escanaba Jr. High School for 28 years until her retirement. The former Doris Ekholm married Elmer Swanson in 1948 and he preceded her in death; and then she married Jack Kivela and he preceded her in death in 1991. In 1997 she married Rudy Gustafson and he preceded her in death in 2004. Doris was a charter member of the Christ the King Lutheran Church, Escanaba Elks Club and the Escanaba Country Club where she was the first women elected to the Board of Directors. She also enjoyed playing bridge, golf, sewing, needle work, quilting and having lunch with friends. Doris lived in Escanaba from 1948 until 2012 when she moved to Peshtigo to be closer to family.
Doris M. Gustafson is survived by sisters: Amy Adams of Rhinelander, Wis., Leone Edquist of Marinette, Wis., Shirley Ericksen of Ashland, Wis. and Lois Carr of Naples, Fla.; brother, Harley (Jackie) Ekholm Port St.Lucie West, Fla.; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her three husbands.
Visitation will be held from 12 noon to 2:30 p.m. (E.S.T.) Monday, August 11, 2014, at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Funeral services celebrating the life of Doris M. Gustafson will be held at 2:30 p.m. (E.S.T.) Monday, at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Chris Johnson and Rev. Scott Ehle officiating.
Burial will take place in the Lakeview Cemetery.
