Edward L. “Bud” Stone, 81, of Marinette, passed away Wednesday, August 20, 2014, at Bay Area Medical Center. He was born June 21, 1933, in Waukegan, IL to Raymond and Lela Stone.
  Bud moved to Marinette with his family as an infant and attended local schools. Bud enlisted in the United States Navy and served aboard the USS Pennington during the Korean War. On August 8, 1953, Bud married the former Joan A. Heinrich. Returning from military service, he worked for Superior Sugar Refining and at the Giddings & Lewis Foundry before joining the Marinette Police Department in 1968. He retired from the department and his law enforcement career in 1989. As a young man, Bud was a stand-out athlete, training as a silver gloves boxer and competing as part of the Meissner’s team. He also played basketball and participated in numerous baseball and softball leagues. After his retirement, he devoted time to furniture refinishing and did extensive research into family genealogy. He was also an avid Green Bay Packer fan.
  Bud is survived by his wife, Joan; one son, Raymond (Lorrie) Stone of Marinette; three grandchildren: Gloria (Ryan) Peterson, Ed Stone and Adam Stone; and three great-grandchildren: Jackson and Owen Peterson and Brooklyn Stone.
 Friends may call at Hansen-Onion-Martell funeral home in Marinette from 4 until 8 p.m. on Friday (today), August 22, 2014. Visitation will continue at the funeral home after 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 23rd until the time of funeral services at 11 a.m. Chaplain Darrel Diers will officiate.
  Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery.
