Francis "Fran" R. Freberg

Francis "Fran" R. Freberg, 72, of Menominee, passed away on Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at Bay Area Medical Center. He was born on December 4, 1941, to the late Raymond and Cecelia (Camps) Freberg in Menominee.
Fran graduated from Menominee High School in 1960, and went on to attend Michigan Tech. He served his country in the Marines during the Vietnam War. On October 31, 1964, Fran married Susan Pichette. Fran had worked for 39 years for Giddings and Lewis, where he was a past Union President; retiring in 2003. He was a Master Instructor for Hunter Safety in both Michigan and Wisconsin for 28 years. He was a member of The Great Lakes Sport Fisherman's Club, Menominee Sportsmans Club, Rigderunners Muzzleloaders Club, Good Sams Camping Club #66 and 77, the American Legion, a lifetime member of the DAV, Resurrection Parish, and a former member of the Woodland Bowhunters Club and Northeraires. Fran loved the outdoors; his greatest joy was hunting at Wayne and Shirley Thoune's cabin. He enjoyed hunting, camping, and fishing on the bay with his boat the "Sea Witch".
Fran is survived by his wife of 49 years, Susan of Menominee; a daughter, Dr. Kelly (B.J.) Freberg-Ash of Wayland, Mich.; grandson, Brandon, who was the joy of his life; sister, Andrea Pada; brother and sister-in-law, Arnie and Carol Pichette; niece, Kari (Robert) Bellias; nephew, Bruce (Nora) Pichette; and many cousins and friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by an infant sister, Dorothy.
Friends may call at Cadieu-Thielen Funeral Home on Sunday, March 30th from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. The Vigil prayer service will begin at 6 p.m. with Deacon Vince Beckley presiding with the Military Honors to follow by the Military 20 Year Club. Visitation will continue on Monday, March 31st from 10 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, for the repose of the soul of Fran at Resurrection Parish at 11 a.m. with Fr. Mark McQuesten presiding.
Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the Rescue Squad, Wayne and Shirley Thoune, Dan and Barb Vandeavond, Greg and Carol Jeske, Rod Hanson, Mike Leverich, Bob Sorenson, Dave and Shirley Frisque, Warren and Donna Thurson, Gary and Karen Camps, Mike and Kathy Molnar and many other family and friends that helped over the past few years.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Rescue Squad or the DAR.
