Helen Emily Prefontaine, 90, of Menominee, Mich., passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday, January 30, 2014. She was born on February 24, 1923, in Bagley, Mich. to the late Robert and Helena (Kamin) Engel.
Helen married Armedos "Sonny" Prefontaine on December 16, 1944. He preceded her in death on September 10, 1994. Helen was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Menominee. She loved gardening, sewing and cooking. She also enjoyed going dancing and listening to music, camping and she liked to travel. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends and her cats.
Helen is survived by her daughter, Corinne Hesyck of Marinette, Wis.; her son, Jeffrey (Theresa) Prefontaine, also of Marinette, Wis.; four grandchildren: Adam (Lana Kakuk) Hesyck, Chad (Britney Fort) Hesyck, Sara Prefontaine and Amy (Pat Benson) Prefontaine; two great-granddaughters: Marley Long and her very special,  Mattie Lynn Metchke; her brother, Clarence (Doris) Engel of Peshtigo, Wis. and her special friend, Violet Kastner. In addition to her parents and her husband, Helen was preceded in death by her son, Neil; one sister and seven brothers.
Funeral services for Helen will be held at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Menominee on Tuesday, February 4, 2014, at 4 p.m. Friends may call at the church from 2 p.m. until the time of services at 4 p.m. The Rev. Lee Goodwin will officiate.
Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Menominee, Mich. Cadieu-Thielen Funeral Home is assisting the family.
