James "Speed" Beaudoin, 85, of Stephenson, Mich., passed away Wednesday, December 4, 2013, at Rennes Health Center, East. Speed was born on January 4, 1928, in Stephenson, Mich. to the late Frank R. and Nancy (Meggers) Beaudoin.
Speed was a graduate of Stephenson High School class of 1945. On February 20, 1946, he enlisted in the United States Army proudly serving his Country until being honorably discharged on July 22, 1947. On July 21, 1951, he married the former Helen Perica in Stephenson, Mich. Speed was self employed in the plumbing and heating business and worked for the City of Stephenson as the Superintendant of Public Works for 25 years, retiring in 1996. He, along with his wife Helen, owned and operated the Stephenson Hotel for 38 1/2 years until 1998. Speed enjoyed woodworking, but his favorite pastime was keeping the hotel in perfect condition. Speed was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church, Mid County VFW Post 5966, American Legion Post 43 where he served as Sergeant of the Drill Team, and charter member and chief of the Stephenson Volunteer Fire Department.
Survivors include his wife, Helen of Stephenson, Mich., daughters: Judy (Steve) Masura of Kimberly, Wis., Joan (Steve) Schlenvogt of Stephenson, Mich. and Jane (Chip) Bottrell of Little Suamico, Wis.; six grandchildren: Stephanie, Sara (Dan), Doug, Thomas (Heather), Christian and Jason; great-granddaughter, Moira; and numerous cousins. Speed was preceded in death by one sister, Marie Beaudoin Haulotte and brother-in-law, Dan Haulotte.
Family and friends may call at Anderson Diehm Funeral Home on Frida,y December 6, 2013, after 4 p.m. until time of Military Rites at 6 p.m. follow by Parish Prayer Service. Visitation will continue on Saturday at Precious Blood Catholic Church from 10 a.m. until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. with Father Ronald Timock officiating.
Entombment will follow in Stephenson Township Mausoleum.
