James A. Dechert

James A. Dechert, 73, of Marinette, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday, January 24, 2014. He was born May 11, 1940, in Milwaukee to Gladys (Siewert) Dechert and the late Henry Dechert.
Jim spent his early life in Milwaukee before entering military service in the United States Army. He was a veteran of the Korean War and attained the rank of 1st Lieutenant, later serving duty assignments in the states, the last at Fort Knox, Kentucky. After discharge, he remained there as a civilian wildlife manager until returning to Wisconsin. Jim went on to pursue a Doctorate in Wildlife Biology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He married the former Nancy A. Tyler on July 30, 1994, and together moved to the Marinette area in 1997. Jim was active in the National Wild Turkey Federation and a president of the local chapter. He was also an avid outdoorsman with lifelong interest in deer hunting and fly fishing.
Jim is survived by his wife, Nancy; two sons: Duane Charles (Melanie) Dechert of Pardeeville, Wis. and Nicholas Dechert of Marinette; three grandchildren: Nickalas, Kylie and Austin; and his mother, Gladys Dechert of Marinette.
Friends may call at Faith Baptist Church in Peshtigo on Thursday, January 30, 2014, from 3 p.m. until 4 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday in the church with the Rev. Archer Leupp officiating.
