John Allan Mikus, 84, Powers, passed away on Monday, March 24, 2014, at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers. He was born on February 27, 1930, in Powers, the son of the late Julius and Verna (Wolfe) Mikus.
On October 20, 1956, he married the former Judith Povolo at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hermansville. John is a 1947 graduate of Powers-Spalding High School. He then served his country from 1950 to 1954 in the United States Air Force becoming a veteran of the Korean War. John then worked for the United States Postal Service as a rural mail carrier retiring in 1990. He was a proud member of the Tony Revord American Legion post #244.
  John is survived by his wife; two sisters: Dorothy (Gerald) Williams and Phyllis (Dan) Zeck, and also nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Elaine Rabitoy and three brothers: Julius Mikus Jr., Ernest Mikus and Irving Mikus Sr.
  Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. (CST) on Friday, March 28, 2014, at the Allo Coolman Funeral Home in Spalding with Tony Revord American Legion post #244 rites at 2:45 p.m. A funeral service to celebrate the life of John Mikus will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home with Fr. Emmett Norden officiating. A luncheon will follow the funeral.
Entombment will take place in the Gardens of Rest Cemetery.
