Pearl C. Schwanz, 96, formally of Menominee, Mich., passed away on Sunday, March 30, 2014, at the Luther Home in Marinette, Wis. She was born January 21, 1918, to the late John and Hattie (Uecke) Hansen in Duluth, Minn.
Pearl and her family moved to Menominee when she was a young girl and graduated from Menominee High School class of 1935. On April 14, 1943, Pearl married William Schwanz at Central Lutheran in Menominee, Mich. He preceded her in death on April 19, 1991. Pearl worked in the retail offices as a clerk at Rydahl's Grocery, Tempo and Montgomery Ward Department Stores. She enjoyed watching her son and grandchildren's sports and academic events; was also a Green Bay Packer and Chicago Cubs Fan, hoping to live long enough to see the Chicago Cubs win a World Series. Pearl was a member of Central Lutheran Church where she was a Sunday School Teacher; member of the Women of the Church group and the Central Lutheran Quilters group. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Menominee County Historical Museum.
Pearl is survived by her son, William (Jill) Schwanz of Menominee, Mich.; five grandchildren: Dr. Kerry A. Schwanz of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Erik (Lisa) Schwanz of Huntersville, N.C., Kristen Schwanz, Korry Schwanz and Bret Schwanz, all of Chicago, Ill.; three great-grandchildren: Julia, Katherine and Maxwell Schwanz of Huntersville, N.C. She is further survived by her nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; three sister: Agnes (Milton) Brown, Margaret (John) Bertrand and Florence (Grant) Berggren.
Services for Pearl will be held on Friday, April 4, 2014, at the Luther Home (831 Pine Beach Road Marinette, Wis. 54143) at 1:30 p.m. Visitation will begin at 12 noon till time of service at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Kenneth Michaelis officiating.
Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery Menominee.
Pearl's family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to Rev. Kenneth Michaelis, Dr. Elwyn Mantei and the Luther Home staff for the wonderful care they provided our dear mother and grandmother for the past 13 years and most recently, the caregivers at Heartland Hospice.
