Robert “Bob” Johnson, 82, of Marinette, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, June 24, 2014. He was born on May 12, 1932, in Peshtigo to the late Melvin and Fern Johnson.
On January 21, 1956, Bob married the love of his life, Florence Maskill. Bob served proudly in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, working as a mechanic at O’Hare Airport. For 30 years, Bob drove truck for Kargard, often times bringing one of his children along for the ride. He was also a volunteer fire fighter for the town of Peshtigo. After he retired, he worked part time at the Recycling Center, where he enjoyed mingling with local town residents and often would bring home little treasures for his grandchildren. He was known around town as Bob “Rufus” Johnson, and was known and liked by everyone. He loved to tell jokes, work in his garden, watch Brewer games, hunt, spend time up at the cabin, go blue/blackberry picking and give golf cart rides for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Florence; his five children: Patricia Nitka (Dale Berg), Robert Johnson, Susan Johnson, Sandra (Jon) Drees, James (Jennifer) Johnson: nine grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers: Richard and Ronald “Homer” Johnson.
Friends may call at Hansen-Onion-Martell funeral home on Saturday, June 28, 2014, from 12 noon until 2 p.m. Services will follow at 2 p.m. with Deacon Jerome Thetreau officiating.
