Susan Marie (Strem) Homa, 61, of Menominee, Mich. passed away peacefully on April, 15 2014. She was born February 24, 1953, to Arnold and Elaine Strem.
Susan (Sue or Susie) graduated from Menominee High School in 1971 and St. Francis Medical Center College of Nursing in Peoria, Ill. in 1976. During her 35 year nursing career, she worked at Pineview (now Rennes East) in Peshtigo, Wis., the psychiatric inpatient facility at Northpointe Behavioral Center in Menominee, Mich., and later at Bay Area Medical Center in Marinette, Wis. Her greatest source of pride was being a "momma bear" to her two daughters: Erin and Ashley. Her unending support and words of encouragement to her girls, often in the form of beautifully handwritten cards and letters, will forever be cherished. Also a lover of animals, she spoiled her many dogs and cats throughout the years. Sue loved spending time with family and friends and listening to her favorite music while enjoying a sunny day in her back yard. She was also an avid fan of the Michigan State Spartans, UConn Huskies and the Green Bay Packers. Sue's compassion, generosity, and sense of humor will forever be missed.
She is survived by her daughters: Erin (Mike) McLeod of Rochester Hills, Mich. and Ashley Steffen of Lansing, Mich.; sisters: Julie Foley of Menominee, Mich. and Wendy Strem of Menomonee Falls, Wis.; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and countless beloved close friends and colleagues. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arnold and Elaine Strem.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 18, 2014 at 12 noon until 2 p.m. at Cadieu-Thielen Funeral Home. A celebration of Sue's life will be held after the memorial service from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Boom Co. Saloon located at 501 6th Ave. in Menominee.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Sue's name to the Menominee County Animal Shelter online at mashelter.org, by phone at 906-864-7297, or at N184 Haggerson Ct, Menominee, Mich. 49858.
The family would like to thank Bay Area Medical Center staff and the doctors and nurses of the third floor ICU at Aurora BayCare Medical Center in Green Bay for giving Susan the same loving care that she provided for countless patients over the years.
