Verland William Gierach, 84, was called into the Lord's arms on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at Luther Home, in Marinette, Wis.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, February 19, 2014, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, in Marinette. Pastor Jon Tesch and Pastor Frederick Mueller will officiate. Burial will take place in Mequon, Wis., at St. John's Lutheran Church with Pastor Jeremy Koehler officiating on Thursday, February 20, 2014.
Pallbearers are Drew Gierach, Matthew Nettesheim, Ryan Nettesheim, Eric Nettesheim, Scott Dzimian, Stephen Follett, Zachary Gierach. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church.
Verland was born in Mequon, Wis., on June 29, 1929, the son of Elmer and Olinda Gierach. He was baptized on July 14, 1929 at St. John's Lutheran Church in East Mequon, Wis. He was united in marriage to Hazel Larson on August 22, 1951. He served in the army during the Korean Conflict as a mechanic for two years. He was a self-employed carpenter until his retirement and then enjoyed sharing his faith, gardening, woodworking, and being surrounded by family.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel and their children: Sandy, Larry (Jill) Gierach, Cindy Nettesheim, Randy Gierach, Gerald (Trish) Gierach, Barb (Mark) Follett, and Neal (Lynn) Gierach; grandchildren: Drew (Hailey), Kirsten, Matthew (Jenny), Ryan (Jess), Eric, Katie (Steve), Paulette (Sean), Scott (Linda), Erin (Louie), Stephen (Kayte), Sarah, Zachary, and Grace; great-grandchildren: Annie, Hattie, Ethan, Alice, Alexander, Cameron, Gabrielle, Austin, and Max. He is preceded in death by his parents: Elmer and Olinda; daughter, Julie; brothers: Ardell and Elmer; sister, Lois.
