Earl Valley Sr., 90, listens as Duffy Nast reads a certificate awarded to Valley for 70 years of continuous service as a member of the 92nd Signal Battalion and continuing with service in the local VFW Post 39. Valley weighed only 86 pounds when he returned home after being freed as a prisoner of war. His son Earl Valley Jr., has taken care of his father mostly by himself for the last 19 years. Valley was captured at the Battle of the Bulge as he tried to get yet another message through with insurmountable odds. (picture taken 1-2-13) (Color reprints: www.ehextra.com)
