WRIGHTSTOWN, Wis. — Marinette’s third girls’ soccer season ended Saturday with few regrets and much optimism for next season.
Wrightstown defeated the Marines 3-0 in a Division 3 regional final.
“It was a competitive game,” Marinette coach Chris Mahlik said.
The Marines missed a good scoring opportunity in the first couple minutes of the match. Another scoring opportunity ended with the ball close to the goal line.
Wrightstown took a 1-0 lead 28 minutes into the match, then added a goal late in the first half. The third goal was scored in the final minutes.
Wrightstown (17-1-1), the No. 1 seed, will play host to second-seeded Notre Dame in a sectional semifinal Thursday.
Marinette (10-5-2) will lose two seniors, Zoey Hallfrisch and Maria Nogueira.
“I’m happy with it,” Mahlik said of the season. “There’s only one game (a 7-0 loss to Marquette) that I felt we really never had a chance. We move foreward to next year.”
