John Allen Dory, 78, previously of Crivitz, Wis., passed away on Aug. 7, 2020, in Escondido, Calif. He was born on Nov. 29, 1941, in Menominee, Mich., to Edward and Virginia Dory.
John attended Catholic Central and graduated in 1961. He began work as a telephone lineman in Marinette in 1961. John soon began work as an electrician with Drees Electric and later started Dory Electric in 1969 until retiring in 1997. John Dory was the epitome of a craftsman through rebuilding antique wooden boats as a passionate hobby. John was also an avid sailor who could be found exploring the Great Lakes most of his free time. He enjoyed sailing to Washington Island and grilling great steaks for dinner.
John is survived by three of his children: two daughters: Jackie Gretzinger of Menominee and her husband Deacon Steve; Jody Benishek of Phoenix, Ariz.; and his son, Christian Dory of Green Bay and wife, Crystal. Also survived by his sister, Mary Skaleski of Fond du Lac; two brothers: Father Mike of Surprise, Ariz., and Edward and wife, Kathy of Marinette; three grandsons; four granddaughters; four step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his son, Patrick Dory; parents: Edward and Virginia Dory; and brother-in-law, Dennis Skaleski.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Resurrection Parish in Menominee on Friday, Sept. 11, at 11 a.m., with Fr. Michael Dory presiding.
Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery. Please note masks are required.
