Marian Lemke Johnson

Marian Lemke Johnson died on Saturday, November 20, 2021, in Jackson, Mich. She was 94 years old. Marian was born and raised on a dairy farm in Taylor County, Wis. She is a graduate of Medford High School and Stout State University with a degree in Vocational Home Economics/Teaching. While at Stout, Marian met Carl H. Johnson, a WW II veteran and student in Printing/Teaching. After graduation, they married in 1950 and moved to Mitchell, S.D. Carl and Marian moved to Menominee, Mich., in 1953, where she taught in Menominee HS and later in the vocational school in Marinette, Wis. They had 3 children: Cheryl Johnson (Wayne Widmann) of Jackson, Mich; David Johnson (Karen) of Kalkaska, Mich; Denise Johnson Cooney (Jim) of Concord, Mich; 4 grandchildren: Joshua (Lindy), Kristine, Katie and Bonney, and a great-granddaughter, Katelyn.

Marian was a life-long Lutheran, active in Bible study, women’s groups, and volunteer groups at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Menominee. Sewing, crafts and cooking were her hobbies. She made hundreds of quilts for Lutheran World Relief, following in her Mother’s footsteps. Carl died in 2006. Marian continued to be a Yooper until her move to Spring Arbor Assisted Living in July 2015. She then lived within a few miles of her family who always were the center of her life.

A memorial service will be held at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Menominee on Saturday, May 7, 2022.
