Mary K. Jessel, 69, of Marinette, Wis., passed away Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2020, at Rennes Health Center East. She was born June 9, 1951, in Marinette to the late Maurice “Bud” and Mildred (Peterson) Payne and graduated from Marinette High School in 1969.
After high school, she worked in home health care and then got her certification in early childhood development from NWTC. She worked at Peter Piper Day Care for many years and later with Nancy Boetcher. Mary married Wayne Jessel on June 30, 1979, in Menominee, Mich. He passed away May 5, 2020. She was a member of Pioneer Presbyterian Church in Marinette where she helped with Sunday school and served as a deacon. Mary loved spending time with her family. She also enjoyed playing pinochle with her mother, golfing and watching the Packers, Brewers and Cubs.
Mary is survived by a son, Tom of Marinette; a daughter, Sara Kellerhuis of Madison; a grandson, Bailey Kellerhuis; nieces and nephews: Anne, Barbara, Kathy, Daniel, Gary Joe and their children. In addition to her husband Wayne, she was preceded in death by a sister, Kathleen; a brother, Bob; mother-in-law, Betty Jessel; sister-in-law, Tanna Jessel; and brother-in-law, Gary Jessel.
Visitation will be held at Thielen Funeral Home on Saturday, Oct. 24, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. A Celebration of Life will be held at 5 p.m., with Pastor Mark Johnson officiating.
Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Cathy, Lisa, Barb and Jennifer for their friendship and assistance over the years.
