Milferd L. Behnke

Milferd L. Behnke, 86, of Marinette, passed away suddenly at his home on Friday, April 30, 2021 after many years of struggle with diabetes and related illnesses. He was born May 8, 1934 in Pound, Wisc. to Louis and Augusta Behnke, coming to Marinette with his family at the age of 8.

He attended local schools and was a graduate of Marinette High School. Milferd served in the U.S. Army from 1957-59. On June 24, 1961 he married the former Donna Monnette. For over 30 years, Milferd was employed by The Ansul Company until his retirement. He was a longtime member of Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church of Marinette.

Milferd could always be heard singing a ditty or whistling a tune. His many hobbies included camping, square-dancing, and hunting with the Monnettes at the Chalet. He loved card playing, storytelling, cars of all kinds, and making people smile. He was a family man and will be missed by his large, extended family.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Donna Behnke; two daughters: Michelle (Joe) Deuster of Suamico, Wisc. and her children: Alyssa and Aaron Stiebohr; and Bonnie Walke of DeForest, Wisc.; her children: Blake, Katie, and Lewis Walke; a niece and nephews in the Behnke family: Tanis (Ron) Marquardt, Bill (Connie) Kahl and Tim Kahl; sisters-in-law: Jane Hinds, Judy Monnette and Maggie (Jack) Monnette Biddy, all of Birmingham, AL., Beverly Monnette of New Carlisle, OH; brothers-in-law: Wayne Monnette of Hamersville, OH; Dale (Angie) Monnette of Oconto; Richard (Audrey) Monnette, Randy (Rhea) Monnette of Marinette; Terry (Diana) Monnette, Mark (Colene) Monnette of Peshtigo; Alphonse Monnette, Jr. of Carrollton, Mich.; Lamont Monnette of Green Bay and Paul (Courtney) Monnette of Birmingham, AL; and many nieces and nephews in the Monnette family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters and their husbands, Lucille (Ken) Kahl and Arlene (Bob) Dunnington.

Friends may call at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church, 1501 Thomas St. in Marinette on Wednesday, May 5, 2021, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. The Rev. Jon Tesch will officiate. Luncheon will follow. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery.
