Patricia Ann (Pacatte) Stone “Pattie”

Patricia Ann (Pacatte) Stone “Pattie”, loved by many, completed her life on Earth and was received into Heaven by her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, December 21, 2021. Pattie was born October 6, 1947, in Waukegan, Ill., and spent much of her life in and around Lake County, IL, before moving up to Marinette, Wis., in the late 1990’s. Pattie, the first born of Donald P. Pacatte & Helen G. White and eldest of the Pacatte/Stevens siblings. She graduated from Libertyville High School and was married shortly thereafter to Gary Shanholtzer. From their union three sons were born. Nothing was more important to Pattie than her three boys; her boys were everything to her. Pattie later married Richard Stone and they along with the boys, resided in Libertyville, Ill., where she was very involved in her boys sporting activities.

For too many years to count, Pattie was a self-employed child- care provider, in Libertyville and Marinette, and herein lies her legacy. Pattie was in her element when surrounded by children. Pattie didn’t just “watch” their children, she engaged with each and every one. She knew what made them happy, and she knew how to make them feel valued. There are too many stories to tell of how Pattie made their time away from mom and dad both memorable and special: from crafting to outdoor adventures, field trips, and making gifts to bring home to their grateful parents. The joy she received from the children in return was always evident on her face, as was the fact that Patricia Ann Stone enjoyed not a career, but her calling, until her last breath. Pattie graced the world with her beautiful smile, endless energy, and loving heart. She took life in stride and one of her favorite sayings was “It is, what it is.” Obstacles were something to deal with, not to complain about, which she did with true grace. We will struggle to bear her absence with such grace but will strive to follow her example.

Left behind to carry on with a giant hole in their hearts are her loving sons: Domenick Shanholtzer of McHenry, Ill., Todd Shanholtzer (Jamie) of Las Vegas, Nev., Jonathan Shanholtzer of Las Vegas, Nev; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings: Kristine (William) Rickert of Hawthorn Woods, Ill., Constance (Jack) Herchenbach of Libertyville, Ill., Kelly (Corbin) Douglass of Denver, Colo., Scott (Colleen) Pacatte of Lake Villa, Ill., Stephanie Stevens Schroeder of Valrico, Fla; and many nieces and nephews. Pattie was preceded in death by her husband, Richard “Dick” Stone; father, Donald Pacatte; mother, Helen “Pat” Stevens; brothers Charles “CB”, Brian; and sister, Sharon.

The family is dealing with the loss at a very hectic time with the holidays and the outbreak of Covid.

A visitation will be held from 4 until 6 p.m. on Thursday, January 20, 2022, at Hansen-Onion-Martell Funeral Home, with a time of sharing following. We hope all that knew her and were touched by her, will be able to attend and share their wonderful stories and experiences. A Celebration of Pattie’s Life will be held in the Libertyville, Ill., area in the summer.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Peter Piper Kiddie Nursery, 561 Cleveland Ave., Marinette, or Marinette County Group Home Association, 900 Wells St., Marinette.
