Valerie Joyce Patz, 76, of Pound, Wis., went home to be with Jesus on Friday, Nov. 27, 2020. She passed from this earthly body to her eternal heavenly home to join many loved ones already there. Valerie was born in Elgin, Ill., on Aug. 19, 1944 to Glen and Vivian (Mattox) Chilcote.
Valerie went to first grade in Iowa and then her family moved to Crivitz, Wis., in 1950. She graduated from Crivitz High School in 1962. Valerie married Howard Patz on May 11, 1963, and resided in the Pound area for 57 and a half years. She was a devoted wife, stay-at-home mother, beloved grandmother and great-grandmother. Valerie was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ, a Sunday school teacher for 30 years, and loved music and photography. She sang in the choir and loved going to Christian concerts. Valerie always had a song in her heart, and her family could hear her singing as she did her housework. At age 53, Valerie learned to play the big four-string upright bass and joined Howard with the guitar in a new ministry together. For the last 23 years, Howard and Valerie served in musical ministry at 11 different area nursing homes, ministering in music to 500 residents. Singing and making music together brought great enjoyment including singing oldies and old familiar gospel songs. Our mission together is, “Helping People Prepare For Eternity.” This was done by sharing from the Bible how one can be sure that heaven will be their destiny. People on their death beds have put their faith and trust in Jesus and received the gift of eternal life in heaven, just as Valerie placed her faith and trust in Jesus when she was 16 years old. Valerie had a beautiful voice and sang with Howard at 88 funerals. Howard and Valerie were snow birds and spent 21 winters in Florida and met many new friends. They continued their music ministry while in Florida at area nursing homes. Along with music she enjoyed keeping a beautiful landscaped yard with islands of shrubs, flowers and a neatly cut yard. She loved spending time with her family. Valerie was a generous person and always tried to make every family member’s birthday and Christmas something very special.
Valerie is survived by her husband Howard; three children: Jon (Shelley) Patz, Lynnea (Marek) Wawrzyniak and Jeremy (Heather) Patz; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three brothers: David, Clyde and Stephen Chilcote; and one sister, Leila Escamilla. Valerie was preceded in death by her parents: Glen and Vivian Chilcote.
Due to the current pandemic a private funeral service with immediate family will be held.
A graveside memorial service and celebration of Valerie’s life will be planned at a later date in 2021.
