Winter in Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan is a time unlike any other. Snow covers our trees and fills our streets, making for some of the most picturesque panoramas imaginable. But with these beautiful surroundings also come shorter days and unpredictable weather — which can take a toll on our bodies.
Although pleasing to the eye, the reality of having to shovel your driveway the morning after a snowstorm is a pain in the back — literally. And if you’re not careful, an improper twist, turn or lift could cause an injury.
Winter-related injuries are all too common where we live, and they can strike at the most inopportune times. It could be a slip or fall, an awkward, acrobatic stretch from trying to maintain balance, or an injury related to popular winter activities such as skiing, snowboarding and sledding.
If you do encounter an injury, it’s best to stop the activity causing you pain right away. Depending on the injury, you may cause more harm if you continue. Most minor injuries can be managed at home and should improve in a few days. If the pain doesn’t subside, don’t panic. We’re here to help.
