MARINETTE — Elijah Behnke, R-Oconto, defeated Democrat Karl Jaeger in Tuesday's election to win the 89th District Assembly seat.
Behnke totaled 8,129 votes (63%), while Jaeger had 4,732 votes (37%).
Behnke will take over the seat vacated by Marinette Republican John Nygren, who defeated Jaeger last November. Nygren resigned to take a job in the private sector.
