MENOMINEE—Menominee residents interested in running for Menominee City Council as write-in candidates can submit their applications until 4 p.m. Oct. 22.
The Nov. 2 city council election ballot includes unopposed candidates in three wards, including incumbents William Plemel in Ward 2 and Josh Jones in Ward 3.
In Ward 1, Michael DeDamos is running unopposed.
In Ward 4, Wendy Baron and Ann Holmquist are vying for a seat because Council Member Doug Robinson, who represents the fourth ward, is not running for re-election. “Between city council and planning commission, I’ve been involved about nine years. At the age of 75, it’s time for someone else to step in,” Robinson said.
“It was nice to be involved. You always wish you could have got done more. I just mainly wish the next people good luck with the city going forward.”
First Ward Council Member Heather Nelson also is not seeking re-election. She was not available for comment.
Write-in candidates must be registered to vote in Menominee, and their application forms must be signed and notarized. The Write-In Candidate Declaration of Intent form is available at Michigan.gov.
Sample ballots are available at the Menominee County website.
