MENOMINEE — The kids in the gym “wooahhhh’d” as the robot lifted its mechanical arm to wave at the crowd. The kids waved frantically to see themselves on the robotic camera — its live feed displayed on a laptop next to Det. Mitchell McRay of the Menominee Police Department, who was operating the device.

As it picked up a traffic cone, the chorus of third- to sixth-graders clapped and cheered. Anyone outside may have thought a Green Bay Packers player was in the building.
