MARINETTE—The names have been released of the four people involved in a one-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon in the town of Beaver.
Marinette County Sheriff Jerry Sauve said interviews were done with the assistance of a Spanish-speaking deputy from the Oconto County Sheriff’s Office. The four men involved in the crash all are Hispanic, including the man who died. All four lived on 3rd Road in the town of Beaver and worked at the same farm, according to Sauve.
The incident happened at about 4 p.m. Wednesday when dispatch received a call of a power pole on fire between Highway 64 and County Trunk P on 3rd Road in the town of Beaver. The caller also reported an injured male was near the burning power pole.
Deputies who arrived on scene located a vehicle that appeared to have been southbound, went off the road into the east ditch striking the pole and came to rest in a corn field, Sauve said. Located near the crashed vehicle was a male who was ejected in the crash. That man is Juaquin Sanchez, age 53. He was pronounced deceased on scene by the assistant Marinette County Medical Examiner.
Two other males were able to walk to a nearby farm where they were treated by Coleman Rescue and transported to a hospital for treatment. They have been identified as Jeremias Centeno, 28, and Jilberto Espinosa, 36.
Sauve said the suspected driver, who left the scene on foot, has not yet been located. He is Jose Santos Gurdian, age 40. The investigation to date leads us to believe he survived the crash and has fled the area, the sheriff said in a press release. His photo is on the sheriff’s office Facebook page.
We would urge anyone who knows of his whereabouts to call the Marinette Sheriff’s Office at 715-732-7627, Sauve stated.
Coleman Rescue, Pound Fire, Aurora Medical Center—Bay Area paramedics and Wisconsin Public Service all assisted at the scene. This is the fifth traffic fatality in Marinette County in 2022.
This investigation is continuing by the Sheriff’s Office and the medical examiner.
