OCONTO—A Wausaukee woman died Wednesday as the result of a snowmobile crash in Oconto County.
The Oconto County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Dispatch Center received a call at 10:54 a.m. Wednesday of a snowmobile accident with injures near McCabe and Lake John roads in the Town of Lakewood. When deputies arrived on scene they located two victims who had been ejected from the snowmobile.
Preliminary investigation shows the snowmobile had left the trail and struck a tree as the initial cause of the accident, according to the sheriff’s office. A 56-year old woman and 57-year old man, both from Wausaukee, were transported by Lakewood/Townsend and Mountain Area Ambulance Service to the Antigo Hospital for treatment.
The 56-year old woman died as a result of injuries sustained in the accident.
The incident is still under investigation by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, the Oconto County Sheriff’s Office and the Brown County Medical Examiner’s Office. No additional information is available at this time.
