Dear Editor,

Many churches are having financial issues due to the virus. About 15 years ago, Pioneer Presbyterian Church cut its heat bill in half by increasing the insulation level from R-35 to R-60. We used blow in fiberglass insulation and did it ourselves. It paid for itself in less than three months of winter heat costs. Check out ways to reduce your energy costs, i.e. putting insulated pads inside all electrical outlets, install shades — can buy insulated shades. For heat loss, a window is a source of a lot of heat loss having only about an R-2 rating, walls should be R-17. Also, you can turn the heat down to 55 degrees when not in use.
