“I strongly protest the letter to the editor appearing in the Oct. 1, EagleHerald that the marijuana dispensaries coming to Menominee will cause decay and should not be allowed in the community. The author of the letter seems to base his reasoning on the Bible. What he fails to understand is that there’s nothing in the Scriptures to support marijuana prohibition. Sin is transgression of the law of God given to Moses for the Israelites. 1 John 3:4. There’s nothing in that law prohibiting any drug—not even alcohol.
“When Jesus Christ came, He and His followers taught the people to learn how to resist temptation so they would not fall into sin. See, for example, Matthew 5:29-30; 26:41; Galatians 6:1; 2 Timothy 2:22. They did not teach believers to impose on others any type of prohibition, restriction or punishment (Jesus let the woman caught in adultery go telling her to sin no more). The job of believers was to become good role models and good examples to their community of being strong resisters of temptation and sin.
“What the author—and others who think like him—need to do is become good role models of sober living by using cannabis in non-intoxicating ways. Cannabis in raw form is not intoxicating and is very good for the human body. The high CBD, low THC strains are not intoxicating. And micro-dosing small amounts of high THC cannabis is not intoxicating. Show youth how to use cannabis responsibly.”
