Dear Editor,

In these turbulent times, Marinette County has just had a couple of people killed by gunfire. One was likely a murder and another the result of pointing a gun at sheriff deputies after a car chase. It is very sad.

Unfortunately, we won’t know what really happened as the officers and their vehicles do not have cameras. The suspect in the possible murder is dead. The elected sheriff, overpaid administrator and 30 county board members have not felt the need for this type of insurance (cameras). If I was an officer, I would buy my own unless I have things to hide. The sheriff, administrator and 30 county board members have felt the need for a used assault vehicle and a green roof on the very expensive repurposed former jail. Don’t be surprised when the relatives sue the county.

No matter what the outcome, the lawyers on both sides will win. The taxpayers will lose. I think the sheriff, administrator and 30 county board members all should be replaced. As a voter, I can see that some of the problem with getting replacements is the county board meetings are during the day. Most of the type of people we should have running the county are not available for the daytime committee and board meetings. The lousy board pay won’t attract anyone either I suspect.

In these troubled rapidly changing times is meeting once a month often enough? Is a person that used to run the landfill really qualified to make critical decisions with our tax dollars? The sheriff is elected so his educational background is an unknown. I wish that I had the answers. It is obvious that the sheriff, administrator and 30 county board members do not.
