Dear Editor,

Marinette School District residents, please give a huge round of applause and congratulations to the Marinette School District Superintendent Corry Lambie, the School Board members, the administrative team, the teachers and the support staff for leading the district through the COVID-19 pandemic in a responsible and safety-conscious manner. The students and their families should also be commended for their patience and cooperation.

Per School Board policies, Lambie was authorized to implement decisions on COVID practices grounded on science and expert guidelines for the health and well-being of staff, students and families. He meticulously used local, state and federal health resources for the best possible advice based on the ever-changing knowledge of the virus and thereby changing recommendations.

According to the EagleHerald’s article following the last board meeting, not everyone agreed with Lambie. However, rather than relying on the opinions and demands of people who have no credentials in virology or epidemiology, Lambie’s thoughtful and steadfast reliance on expert facts and information should be a source of confidence in his leadership and his commitment to the district. In addition, one of the important lessons in citizenship he modeled for students is that along with the tremendous freedoms we all enjoy comes the responsibility to respect our fellow citizens by doing our part (such as wearing masks) to protect each other. Lambie’s tireless work has paved the way for our schools to safely open in the fall as normally as possible.

With gratitude to all who contributed to a safe environment for staff, students and families,

Doris LaCourt
