MARINETTE—Beginning May 7th at four cemeteries, the City of Marinette will permit lot owners and those caring for graves to begin placing summer decorations upon those graves. Those four cemeteries include: Forest Home, Congregation Montefiore, Sons of Jacob and Woodlawn.

Any floral beds upon graves must be cut out of the sod and kept weeded at all times. If decorations become unsightly due to overgrown grass or weeds, they will be removed so trimmers can trim around the marker. Decorations mounted on wire tripods are prohibited.

The deer and rabbit problem should be taken into consideration when placing live plants. Your florist can recommend a type of plant that wildlife do not like.

People are asked to use discretion when placing decorations that may be valuable as the city is not responsible for stolen or vandalized items.

VETERAN MEMORIAL FLAGS AVAILABLEGrave sites of U.S. Military Veterans buried in City of Marinette Cemeteries (Forest Home, Woodlawn, Congregation Montefiore and Sons of Jacob) are eligible for a complimentary honorary U.S. grave marker flag for placement on U.S. Military Veterans grave prior to Memorial Day.

U.S. grave marker flags for veterans within family grave lots may be picked up at the Forest Home Mausoleum Office (2420 Mary St.) during limited office hours from May 8 to May 25. Weekend office hours run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Mausoleum staff will be maintaining the six-foot social distancing guideline, and no more than 10 people will be allowed in the Mausoleum at one time.

U.S. military veterans buried in the designated veteran plots within American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) areas may have flags placed by the various veteran organizations and/or volunteers prior to Memorial Day.

People may call the City Clerk’s office at 715-732-5140 with questions regarding cemetery summer decoration rules and regulations.
