MENOMINEE — Anna Axtell’s impact on both ends of the court for the Menominee girls basketball team earned the junior guard two-way All-Conference honors at the annual meeting of the Great Northern Conference coaches on Wednesday.
Axtell was named to both the GNC First Team and the GNC All-Defensive Team, joining Escanaba’s Mari Bink as the only players voted to both teams.
Four Lady Maroons received All-Conference nods, with junior Hanna Drifka being voted to the Second Team while fellow junior Kamryn Olson and freshman Gianna Coduti were Honorable Mention.
Escanaba’s Keira Maki was voted Player of the Year after helping lead the conference-champion Eskymos to an unblemished 7-0 record in the GNC.
Esky coach Tracy Hudson was named Coach of the Year.
Kingsford’s Alaina Kowalski, Marquette’s Megan MacPhee and Gladstone’s Lilli Johnson make up the other three spots on the First Team.
Johnson was also selected as the GNC’s Defensive Player of the Year.
Joining Drifka on the Second Team are Marquette’s Julia Ott, Gladstone’s Tia Schone, Kingsford’s Laura Bracket and Esky’s Carney Salo.
Grayson LaMarche (Escanaba), Sienna Lingle (Marquette), Elaina Bortolini (Kingsford), Elaina Martinez (Gladstone), Brooke Logan (Marquette), Saylor Henderson (Escanaba) and Cora Anderson (Marquette) also received Honorable Mention.
Siena Lingle (Marquette), Erika Malone (Kingsford) and Morgan Maki (Escanaba) were voted to the All-Defensive Team.
