MENOMINEE—The Peshtigo Bulldogs swept the competition to win the tri-cities triangular volleyball match on Tuesday.

The first match saw the Bulldogs defeat the Marines 25-16 in set one before nabbing another win in the second set with a 25-20 score.

“The first game we gave them their first 5 points before we got one and we hit too many out of bounds and missed too many serves,” Peshtigo head coach Robin Gilligan said. “We just had to pull it together. It wasn’t like we were way off with our hitting either. Our passing was spot on tonight. Our setters are really getting the ball to our hitters well. I will give Marinette credit and this is the toughest Marine team I have ever seen.”

Peshtigo was just as impressive against Menominee, taking set one 25-13 before wrapping up the sweep with a 25-14 win in the second set.

“The balls were just not falling our way. The front row played very well tonight. They have come a very long way so far this season. They are playing smarter and are cleaning up their miscues. The serving in the last game cost us at least ten points which makes a giant difference. There are things we need to work on but those things are all things we can fix,” Menominee coach Sarah Betzinger said.

The Bulldogs were led by Tori Jandt with nine aces and 27 digs, with Jaci Tonn chipping in five aces, six kills, six digs and 16 assists. Allison Peters totaled 22 digs, 10 kills and an ace, while Samantha Kodric contributed an ace, a block, three digs and eight kills.

Marinette salvaged a win on the night against Menominee, rebounding from a 25-23 loss in the opening set to win set two 25-22 before putting things away 25-19 in the final set.

The Marines were in Clintonville on Thursday, with results unavailable at press time. Marinette’s next game is a home match against Oconto Falls on Sept. 16 at 7 p.m.
