MENASHA, Wis. — A clean sweep from their doubles pairings lifted the Marines girls tennis team to its first win of the season with 4-2 victory over Menasha in Bay Conference action on Tuesday.

The Marines went a perfect 3-0 in doubles matches and were able to pick up a victory in singles play to edge out the Blue Jays.

The No.1 doubles pairing of Lauryn Blystone and Alyssa Greenwood set the tone for the Marines with a 6-3 win over Emily Faubel and Cora Miller in the first set before narrowly squeaking out a 7-6 decision in the second set for the victory.

Jordan Boettcher and Anna Pitts continued to gel in their second match as a team, taking down Catherine Rios and Shanticia Garcia 6-1, 6-2 in No. 2 doubles, while the No. 3 grouping Kate Schwaba and Jamie Scully downed Karma Schulze and Cianna Bobnock by a score of 6-0, 6-2.

No. 1 singles Kennedy Zeifert picked nabbed her first win of the season by defeating Charley Mueller 6-2, 6-3 and picked up Marinette’s fourth win of the day to secure a Marine victory.

Not everything went so smoothly for Marinette, as No. 2 doubles Macy Hermanson was bested by Katelyn Raab 6-3, 6-1, and Carly Bauer suffered another disappointing loss in her second grueling No. 3 singles match of the season, losing to Claire Calkins 7-6, 7-5.

The Marines are back on the court today, traveling to Green Bay East High School for another Bay Conference clash. The match begins at 4 p.m.
