SURING—The Suring Eagles grabbed a first-quarter lead continued to pile on the points in a 38-6 triumph over Wausaukee in MONLPC Conference play on Friday.
Both teams reside in the MONLPC-West division but are at opposite ends of the standings, with the Eagles (3-2 overall, 2-0 MONLPC-West) on top the division while the Rangers (1-4 overall, 0-2 MONLPC-West) are fifth.
Suring struck first with a 46-yard touchdown run by Jeremy Hensel and a 15-yard score from Gavin Fredenburgh putting the Eagles on top 16-0.
The Rangers responded in the second quarter with an 8-yard touchdown run by Kayden Suennen, but Hensel scored his second rushing touchdown of the game, this time from 15-yards out, to give the Eagles a 24-6 edge at halftime.
Suring owned the second half, recording a safety in the third quarter before Hensel scored again on a 46-yard run to make it a 26-point game. Fredenburgh tacked on a 2-yard rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter to seal the deal for the Eagles.
The Eagles piled up 344 yards of total offense with 315 of it coming on the ground. Hensel led the way with nine carries for 146 yards and two scores, while Fredenburgh contributed 25 yards and two touchdowns and Taron Haak added 20 carries for 107 yards.
Prestin Brunette was Wausaukee’s top rusher with 52 yards on eight touches while Kamden Stumbris chipped in 16 carries for 42 yards while also throwing for 26 yards on 4-of-12 passing. Suennen caught two passes for 26 yards.
Suring hosts Florence (2-3 overall, 0-2 MONLPC-West) on Friday at 7 p.m.
The Rangers are back in action at White Lake/Elcho (2-4 overall, 0-2 MONLPC-West) on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Elcho, Wis.
