MARINETTE—The Kretz brothers of Marinette each took home first place at the Little River Country Club club championships on July 11.
Ty Kretz, a 2021 graduate of Marinette High School who will tee off for the South Dakota State Jackrabbits next season, shot a consistent 69 across the two rounds of the championship flight, carding a total of 138 and edging Blake Grenier (141) by three strokes to finish first overall.
Grenier shot a 70 on the front-nine and managed to shave one stroke off his card on the back-nine, finishing with a 71. Kyle Cheney was third after recording a 71 and a 73 for a combined score of 144.
Ty’s younger brother, Trey, outdueled Peshtigo’s Adam and Grant Bauman, capturing first place in the first flight with a score of 144, four strokes ahead of Adam Bauman (148). Grant Bauman was close behind in third place with a score of 150.
In the second flight, Dave Wiltzius started the day with an 80 on the front-nine before rebounding with a 76 through the back-nine, nabbing the top spot with a combined 156. Keegan Polomis was one stroke behind Wiltzius (81) after the first nine holes, but fell two strokes behind on the back end, finishing three strokes back in second place with a score of 159.
Bryan Knapp was third shooting a total of 167.
On the women’s side, Sue Lund was the gross winner after shooting the lowest combined score at 94, while Jamie Wiltzius was the net winner with the lowest round score of 72. She finished with a combined score of 101
Bev DeGroot shot a 105 and Cathy Kaster carded a 107.
