MARINETTE—Winning every game has not been enough for this year’s Marinette softball team.

Not only are they winning every game they play, they have ‘ten-run-ruled’ every opponent to date.

That trend continued with a 10-0 victory over Wrightstown on Thursday.

With star pitcher Sydney Nemetz being virtually unhittable on the mound and a supporting cast of bats providing plenty of run support, the potential is limitless for the 2021 Marines.

Nemetz pitched the whole game for Marinette. She ended up striking out 16 of the 20 batters she faced, allowed only two hits and no walks or runs.

Evidently, pitching a masterful game was not enough for Nemetz, who at the plate drew a walk, stole two bases, scored two runs and an RBI single granting Marines senior Maya Carivou the opportunity to score.

Marinette head coach Macintyre after the game had to praise to another one of his seniors saying, “Matti Renikow hit absolute bomb.”

The aforementioned ‘bomb’ was Renikow smashing a two-run homerun in the fourth inning.

However, Macintyre mentioned it was a team effort “where everyone contributed to the win.”

With seven seniors and this game being their first home game of their last high school season, Macintyre added on account of that, “They were a little emotional. You could kind of tell that going into the first inning we were emotional. This is a special group of seniors. They are fun to be around. That’s what it is all about.”

Hannah Ebsch and Lexi Kacalo exemplified coach Macintyre’s words. Ebsch finished the game with two runs, a stolen base as well as a triple and Kacalo had a base hit and run.

No moment was bigger than when Marines senior Bailie Thielen added to the run she scored and walks she drew earlier and finished the game after driving in Nemetz and Kaculo into score ending the game with a score of 10-0.

Marinette’s game against Oconto Falls Saturday was postponed, so the Marines in back on the field today at 5pm at Pederson Ballpark in Marinette against Green Bay Preble.
