NEGAUNEE, Mich.—Danny Birch picked up a win in No. 4 singles action to help the Menominee boys tennis team avoid a sweep at the hands of the Negaunee Miners on Thursday.

In No. 1 doubles action, Brady Schultz and Aidan Bellisle were bested 6-7, 1-6 by Nick Jacobetti and Gavin Saunders. The No. 2 doubles duo of Aden Laurin and Joe Gimber were swept 0-6, 0-6 by Brayden Oglesby and Nathan Marcotte, while No. 3 doubles Trevor Theuerkauf and Connor Coduti fell to Jace Turri and Zack Brundage 3-6, 3-6. No. 4 doubles Nathan Schultz and Liam Sorensen dropped straight sets to James Thomson and James Dank 0-6, 0-6 to wrap up the day for the Maroons.

“Trevor and Connor showed some improvement today. They are started to be more aggressive and play more points at the net,” Menominee head coach Sam Larson said. “Aidan and Brady hung tough in the first set. Things unraveled a little bit in the second set. As we get more reps I think we will show improvement quickly.”

The Maroons are back on their home court against Kingsford on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
