WABENO, Wis. — The Niagara girls volleyball team fought to the wire against a scrappy Laona-Wabeno squad on Tuesday but ultimately came up short in a 2-3 loss to the Rebels in non-conference action.

Tuesday's match was a back-and-forth affair where neither team was able to grasp momentum for very long. Niagara took the opening set 25-19 but fell in set two 15-25. The Badgers responded by blowing out the Rebels in set three 25-11before Laona-Wabeno knotted matters up at 2-2 with a 25-17 victory in set four. In the deciding fifth set the two teams traded blows until a final rally by the Rebels gave Laona-Wabeno the 15-13 win and secured the 3-2 match victory.

Alyssa Cretton led the Badgers in kills with 18 and also recorded two aces, two blocks and 17 digs. Bailey Pearson and Morgan Borchardt each had three aces while Pearson paced Niagara in digs with 17 and Borchardt led the team in assists with 26.
