Massive bear

Tim Klatt of Wallace poses with the black bear he shot Thursday evening east of Wallace. Klatt, a longtime hunter, shot his first bear on the second day of the Michigan bear hunt season. He used a .270-caliber rifle to down the bear from 60 yards. The bear weighed about 480 pounds dressed and about 435 pounds dressed out. Klatt had help from his friends—Beau, Ben and Cameron Vandenberge, along with Ali and Jack Granquist—to get the bear out of the woods.
