Rangers walk-off Florence
WAUSAUKEE—A walk-off single from Alex Wojcik lifted the Wausaukee boys baseball team past Florence 7-6 in extra innings during the opening round of the WIAA Division 4 Regionals on Thursday.
The Rangers built an early 2-0 lead but watched it slip away as Florence took a 5-4 lead after four innings. Wausaukee tied matters up at 6-6 in the bottom of the sixth before Wojcik hit the game-winning single in the eighth.
Brendan Versaskas went a perfect four-for-four at the dish with three RBIs while Kamden Stumbris and Nathan Shaw each batted in a run.
Wojcik also picked up the win on the mound after pitching three and two-thirds innings. He gave up four hits and issued four walks, allowing four runs (three earned) in the process. Wojcik also struck out two.
Conner Schroeder shut the door on Florence, tossing four and one-thirds innings and allowing just one hit. He fanned seven batters and walked six while giving up three runs (one earned).
The No. 4 seeded Rangers travel to Marinette to take on the No. 1 seeded STAA-Lena Cavaliers on Tuesday. First-pitch is 4:30 p.m.
