CLINTONVILLE, Wis.—Two days after snapping their 32-game winning streak, the Marinette boys basketball team found itself shutdown offensively in the first quarter en route to a 70-42 defeat at the hands of the Clintonville Truckers in North Eastern Conference action on Thursday.
Marinette (1-8 NEC, 1-9 overall) was outscored by a 35-17 margin in the first half as Clintonville (4-5 NEC, 6-5 overall) forced the Marines to shoot 29 percent from the floor and just 14 percent from beyond the three-point line, however Marinette was an efficient 14-20 on free throws.. The Marines shooting woes continued into the second half with the Truckers outscoring Marinette 35-25 to pick up the victory.
Asaia Polazzo led Marinette in scoring with 10 points while Jake Sommerfeldt finished with seven, Keegan Polomis chipped in six, Sam Sommerfeldt added five, Matt Twork, Carson Erdman and Charlie Bailey all tacked on four and Nate Poetzl scoring two.
The Marines are back on the court with a home game against Little Chute on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
